Founder Stories, sponsored by Fidelity Shoobx and Shields Group
NextUp by LvlUp Ventures would like to introduce our next Founder Story, where we delve into the inspirational tales of innovative minds shaping the future. Today, in celebration of Black History Month, we shine a spotlight on Jahkil Naeem Jackson, a remarkable Gen Z CEO whose story embodies resilience, compassion, and boundless determination.
At just 15 years old, Jahkil Naeem Jackson has already left an indelible mark on the world. A best-selling author, social entrepreneur, student athlete, influencer, and the founder of Project I Am, Jahkil's journey epitomizes the power of youth to drive meaningful change.
Project I Am, a nonprofit organization Jahkil established at the tender age of eight, was born from a simple yet profound encounter. Moved by witnessing homelessness firsthand while distributing chili with his aunt under a viaduct in downtown Chicago, Jahkil was propelled to action. He refused to accept a world where individuals lacked basic necessities and a place to call home. Supported by his loving family, Jahkil's parents nurtured his empathy and encouraged his budding philanthropic spirit through countless conversations.
In February of 2016, Project I Am came to fruition, fueled by Jahkil's unwavering belief in the mantra, "don't wait to be great." Central to the organization's mission are "Blessing Bags" – care packages brimming with essentials like masks, wipes, socks, deodorant, and hand sanitizer. Jahkil's vision extends far beyond mere material aid; it's about restoring dignity, instilling hope, and fostering empathy.
Since its inception, Project I Am has blossomed into a global movement, mobilizing hundreds of young change agents and raising an impressive $400,000 for the homeless. Jahkil's tireless efforts have reached over 90,000 individuals worldwide, from Chicago to Los Angeles, Oklahoma to Washington D.C., and beyond. His compassion knows no bounds, extending support to orphanages in Swaziland and Ghana, as well as disaster-stricken communities in Guatemala, the Bahamas, and Puerto Rico.
Jahkil's impact reverberates far beyond the realm of philanthropy. Recognized as one of three influential individuals by President Barack Obama in 2017, Jahkil has been lauded by BET, Disney, and LeBron James for his extraordinary contributions. His resilience and spirit of service have earned him the title of Marvel Super Hero and CNN Hero Young Wonder, amplifying his message of hope to audiences worldwide.
Yet amidst his whirlwind of achievements, Jahkil remains grounded, finding solace in basketball, tap dancing, breakdancing, and even making his mark in the world of fashion and media. His infectious enthusiasm and unwavering dedication serve as a beacon of inspiration for generations to come.
In his own words, Jahkil reflects on the profound significance of his journey: "My middle name is Naeem, which means benevolent, kind-hearted, and generous. It was then that I realized that Project I Am was simply fulfilling who I was meant to be."
As we celebrate Black History Month, let Jahkil Naeem Jackson's story serve as a testament to the power of compassion, resilience, and unwavering determination. Through his exemplary leadership, Jahkil is not only shaping the future but illuminating a path of hope and possibility for us all.
